Ok Mamas, if you're anything like me, dressing for a holiday party can feel like dressing to go to the moon or something. You are used to sporting your yoga pants and old tees every day and the most exciting thing that has happened recently was that your toddler poo-pooed in the potty!!! So the idea of dressing like a legit adult and doing something fun is like... mind. blown. KABOOM. Well, here are some of my holiday party staples that I know I can whip out and sport anywhere and feel great. You have to feel great in your clothes at a party or else you won't have fun. That's what I tell my husband when he sees that I bought more clothes. He's not convinced. So the first thing to know is "What type of party is this?" I mean, you might wear something different to a party with your besties since you may get a little turned up, whereas you might need to turn it down a bit at your spouse's work party. You know what I'm saying? 1. The top left outfit is my LBD, or Little Black Dress. It is a classic, elegant dress that you can sport to anything from a charity event to a company holiday party with cocktail attire. If you don't have a simple black dress, then what the heck are you doing? 2. The lower left outfit is my, Look Like You Have Class (even if you don't) holiday party outfit. This outfit is for a more casual holiday party. Yes Mom, the trousers are white. But, they are actually an off white and made of wool, so totally on fleek for the season. I like to pair these trousers with a more fitted top with some lace to dress it up. I will add either a sparkly necklace or more subdued pearls, depending on the company at the party if you know what I'm saying;) Black heels need to be comfortable. Most parties do not have seating for everyone, so wear something you can stand in all night- a must. 3. Finally, the tops on the right are my holiday tops with some color for more casual parties. These are great with a pair of black skinnies and black riding boots (great for standing- and dancing all night). I also love them with a fun necklace, preferably long and with fringe on it. Oh, and don't forget the stacked bangles and dark n' moody nail polish! HOLIDAY PARTY RULES 'N TIPS:
And Finally, Merry Christmas and have fun! Remember that perspective is everything, so smile and enjoy yourself. Where ever you may be.

So today only, Old Navy is featuring these (and more) hot holiday clothes for 60% off original price. The dresses pictured range from $15-$29 and the vest is $27! You seriously cannot beat these prices right now! Check them out online at Old Navy. These are some of my favorite styles, but there are so many more! I purchased these three dresses and plan to pair them with riding boots and/or leggings for Thanksgiving, date nights, and holiday parties. You know this season there will be several events that you cannot wear yoga pants to, so stock up now and score a major deal!!!! GET to Costco immediately!!!! This fantastic cowl neck sweater poncho/cape is going for $14.99! Yes, I'm so serious and it is even more fantastic than this picture shows. It comes in three colors: maroon, black, and gray. I'm definitely going back to get another one. It is a total winter staple and can even be worn with leggings. So cozy and fashion forward! You can dress this baby up or down and you know these capes are everything this season right?! You're welcome.
I must admit, I love fashion and clothes, although I'm not an expert by any means or stretch of the imagination. I just know what I like. I've had a total blast dressing up my daughter because we have a ton of hand-me-downs from her big cousin, plus I love to pick up sweet deals at zulily.com. Look at last week's style report from my toddler...too much! Got me thinking... I love fashion so much, but then I wear yoga pants like every. damn. day. Time to shake things up. During my toddler's nap the other day, I tore through my closet and pulled out all my faves and thought I'd write a fun fashion report for this upcoming season for all you comfort & style seeking mamas. We may wear yoga pants most days, but it's nice to know that we can pull together a fun, fashion-forward outfit in a pinch-should we ever need to. Disclaimer: I'm not exactly "cutting edge." I just like clothes that are comfortable, colorful, fun, and inexpensive. I usually wear yoga pants, sweats, old tee shirts, and such, but when I do wear real-clothes, I love mixing old things with new pieces and I don't really follow fashion rules like no white after Labor Day, sorry Mom. I will include purchasing info on everything that was purchased recently, but most of these clothes are 2+ years old. Mostly, this post is just to spark some fun ideas for the new season. So, pull out your old wardrobe staples and freshen them up with some fun new shoes, accessories, or a new cardigan! I love plaids in the fall and winter! They are cozy and pair perfectly with a pair of warm, cozy boots. I'm really into the elbow patches right now too. I recently got this cardigan at Lime Lush Boutique online and boots were featured in my last post. Once again, I'm loving these elbow patches! They are everything this season and a drapey cardigan is simply fantastic for hiding any of those areas that you might not be wanting to show off right now. I got the cardigan several months ago on zulily for less than $20, but I've seen this cardigan featured on several sites. It's a staple for me this season and looks great with yoga pants too mamas! Leopard print, yaaaaaaaaas. I'm loving leopard print this season and every season really. This shirt was purchased two years ago from Dress Up Boutique for less than $15 and I've worn it a ton. Leopard just never goes out of style in my opinion. Looks great with or without a vest/cardigan and can be dressed up or down. Add black skinny jeans and black riding boots and a sparkly necklace and this top is ready for date-night! Ow! Ow! Here is the vest again and this vest is from Lime Lush Boutique too. I think it was $38, a little pricey, but goes with everything and is super warm too. Order a size up because it runs small. I paired it with a bright green long sleeved top here for a very casual look. All three of these looks are super casual and I love pairing them with my comfy sparkle keds, featured in a recent post. I'm in a flowy top on the left, so I wore skinny jeans, but a more fitted look on the right, so I paired with my old boot cut jeans- and yep, I hear the boot cut is coming baaaaaack! But, don't toss your skinnies just yet ladies, they still serve their purpose. Both tops are over a year old and purchased on zulily for less than $20 each. I loooooove a comfy baseball tee in the fall- most comfortable top in the world and cute too- also works well with yoga pants- thank goodness! I. love. polka dots. #sorrynotsorry! I am drawn to all things polka dots becasue they are just so fun and they make me smile. This sheer polka dot top was purchased about three years ago from jcpenney, but has been a total staple for me. The moto-style sweatshirt zip up, is a new-ish purchase. I got it over the summer at the banana republic outlet mall. It's a winner and looks great with yoga pants and a long tank as well. A good cardigan zip up is a must this season! And of course the polka dots with the bright green cardigan is just fun! Yep, I definitely need a tank under the shirt though, can we say, see-through! Pep-Lum, yum, yum! I looove a good peplum top because it flows right over that fluffy muffin top and accentuates the finer-looking areas so well. This top is old...cannot even remember where I got it... but it's a staple. Can be dressed up too with a sparkly necklace. Yaaaaaas! White pants. Yep. My mom is shaking her head right now and mumbling something about, "In my day, we would never..." I know. I know. But look, it's like I told you, I don't really follow fashion rules. I just like what I like. And white skinnies with brown riding boots (from DSW 3 or 4 years ago) are just yum. And the dots. Yes, the dots! This fitted sweater is from The Limited last year, they always have GREAT sales! And the headband is fun- stripes + dots = fun explosion White pants again y'all. I know. I know. But paired with the navy gingham and the tan wrap sweater (both circa 2012 and no idea where from). Oh. my. gaw. Could you not just play some croquet in this outfit though? Now introducing the Palazzo pant. To be honest, I had never even heard of these. I know, where have I been. But I recently started to notice them and love how comfy they looked so I had to try them. But look, I'm not going to spend a fortune on a trend, so I hit up my fave spot for trendy fashion- WALMART and I scored these babies for $12.95. They are like wearing pajama pants in public. Lov-ing this trend. Yes. and Yes. I paired them with an old black cut-out top from Nordstrom juniors last year. You can get great deals in the juniors section by-the-way. Annnnnnd, this. is. me. like. EVERY.DAY. ALL. DAY. I wake up and put on my work out clothes because I go to the gym in the mornings before I start my day, but no time to shower and change until 8pm when my toddler goes to sleep, so I might as well have workout clothes I like. These are from my fave spot WALMART!!! I'm loving the color blocking and they are so soft and comfy. The top is super fun and looks like similar more expensive brands with only a fraction of the price! And lastly, a creation of my own... a super long fitted top (AKA a short, fitted dress) paired with a pair of skinnies and my sparkly keds! This is super my-style and I'm sure it's frowned upon by people with cutting-edge style, but it's just fun and comfy, and a way to wear that dress you NEVER wear because it's too short! Dress from a cheapy shop called Love Culture. They have fab trendy clothes for suuuuuper cheap prices, but order everything about 1-2 sizes larger than you normally wear becasue they always run small.
So the bottom line is that you should throw the fashion rules out the window and have fun with your style this season. Wear things that you like and feel good in! Don't worry so much about "fitting in" and don't feel like you have to wear "real clothes" every day. I wear "real clothes" about once or twice a week, but it's good to remind yourself that you can look nice and take a shower occasionally-makes you feel good! And don't spend too much money either. Get out your old stuff and take inventory. What can you still wear? How can you update old staples with new pieces? And most of all, look for comfy. When you are comfy, you are happy, and happy is always in style! Happy fall Y'all! I don't really need to say anything about these glorious boots because they speak for themselves am I right? I ordered these a couple of weeks ago and am loving them. They are comfy, cozy, look great with skinny jeans, leggings, and they even unzip to become high boots as well. They are by Muk luk and I love almost all of their boots. They are known for their warm slippers, but their boots are equally dreamy! Check them out! I usually wear a 6 or 6 1/2 and I got a 7, so I'd say they run a tad small. Check them out!!! You're welcome!
Good morning mamas! Full disclosure here, no shower today, went for a long sweaty walk this morning and then headed to my daughter's open house at her school (Mother's Morning Out). The only make up I had time for is a little lip gloss and the left over eye liner from last night (I know mom, I should wash ALL my makeup off every single night, most night's I do). This lip gloss, just makes me feel like I look a little more pulled together on days like this. And on days when I actually shower, it's like icing on the cake! And funny thing because it tastes like icing too! My fave color is called Saint Germain because it is subtle and goes with everything. You can dress it up or dress it down. If you want to give it a whirl yourself, all you have to do is LIKE this post to be entered into a drawing to win your very own Saint Germain gloss mailed right to your house! Winner will be announced Monday because everyone needs something to look forward to on Mondays!
So, like I may have mentioned before... I'm not a fashion expert or anything. I just buy what I like and not too pricey of course. Well, recently I purchased a pair of toddler sneakers for my little girl by Sketchers called Twinkle Toes. They are too adorable and she gets a kick out of the fact that they actually light up when she stomps. So when I saw these adult sized sparklers by Keds (OMG I used to L-O-V-E Keds!!!), they just looked so... FUN! You guys know I like F-U-N so at $35, I had to get them! They are seriously so much fun and they look great with everything from a pair of skinny jeans to my workout leggings. And they are COMFORTABLE to boot! Even without socks! No rubbing or band aids needed! Say it with me, Yaaaaaaas!!! I highly recommend! Add a little twinkle to your toes and why not rock the comfort too? Happy weekend! Hope you're having F-U-N!
This tank is from one of my favorite spots, Dress Up Boutique. I love it for so many reasons, but mostly because it is so versatile and meets the needs of my lifestyle as a busy mama that is always searching for a balance between comfort and style. You can have both with this tank! During the day, this tank is great for running errands and chasing after your kids if you pair it with some comfy crop leggings (gray in picture). You can wear it with casual flat sandals, flip flops, and even tennis shoes or Toms. But hold on, I know some of you are already thinking about your Fall wardrobe and are not too sure that this will work in the cooler weather. Below, I paired it with some casual ankle boots, full length length leggings, and a long cardigan. I also think it would be cute with a Fall scarf or long necklace and tall riding boots and skinny jeans. What do you think?! So, I know summer is ALLLLmost over, but I saw this dress at one of my favorite stores and couldn't resist! Dress Up Boutique is an affordable store with fun and trendy styles. I love bright colors and dresses that scream F-U-N, so this one really fit the bill! It's comfy, flowy, and not too short. You could also go sans bra thanks to the strategically placed ruffle in the front. I'm going to wear it with a pair of gladiator sandals by Bear Paw (most comfortable shoes ever) because I live for style paired with comfort. But, it would look great with a pair of wedge sandals as well. Everyone needs a light, flowy summer dress like this, so go treat yourself. It's a good excuse to make some plans! Summer is almost over, so get out there and have some fun! When I thought about what I would mention in the moderation style section, this tank immediately came to mind. I'm calling it the 1,000 Compliments Tank because I have almost gotten that many on this tank. Why is it so fabulous you ask? I'm so glad you asked because I have put a lot of thought into this.
This tank is soft and made of a quick dry fabric that means it can take you from your morning walk/workout to running errands without scaring onlookers or embarrassing your children. It is a neon-ish pink color that adds some warmth to your skin tone and works well with gray or black bottoms. And can we talk about the length?! Oh. Em. Ghee. The length is perfection. Long, without being too long, but just enough to cover a bit of the booty and your belly. It also cuts in at all the right places to make it a flattering fit on every body type. I've worn it with fitted capri leggings as well as shorts (pictured). In the fall, I imagine that I can still wear it with leggings, a long cardigan and casual boots or sneakers. I have gotten so many compliments on this tank it amazes me every time I wear it! One person actually asked if it was by Lululemon!!! #Winning since I only paid $6.49 for it at Belk. I got it in blue too. Seriously, you need this tank. * It runs a tiny bit large, so I bought a small. I usually wear medium tops for reference. |
