I must admit, I love fashion and clothes, although I'm not an expert by any means or stretch of the imagination. I just know what I like. I've had a total blast dressing up my daughter because we have a ton of hand-me-downs from her big cousin, plus I love to pick up sweet deals at zulily.com. Look at last week's style report from my toddler...too much! Got me thinking... I love fashion so much, but then I wear yoga pants like every. damn. day. Time to shake things up. During my toddler's nap the other day, I tore through my closet and pulled out all my faves and thought I'd write a fun fashion report for this upcoming season for all you comfort & style seeking mamas. We may wear yoga pants most days, but it's nice to know that we can pull together a fun, fashion-forward outfit in a pinch-should we ever need to. Disclaimer: I'm not exactly "cutting edge." I just like clothes that are comfortable, colorful, fun, and inexpensive. I usually wear yoga pants, sweats, old tee shirts, and such, but when I do wear real-clothes, I love mixing old things with new pieces and I don't really follow fashion rules like no white after Labor Day, sorry Mom. I will include purchasing info on everything that was purchased recently, but most of these clothes are 2+ years old. Mostly, this post is just to spark some fun ideas for the new season. So, pull out your old wardrobe staples and freshen them up with some fun new shoes, accessories, or a new cardigan! I love plaids in the fall and winter! They are cozy and pair perfectly with a pair of warm, cozy boots. I'm really into the elbow patches right now too. I recently got this cardigan at Lime Lush Boutique online and boots were featured in my last post. Once again, I'm loving these elbow patches! They are everything this season and a drapey cardigan is simply fantastic for hiding any of those areas that you might not be wanting to show off right now. I got the cardigan several months ago on zulily for less than $20, but I've seen this cardigan featured on several sites. It's a staple for me this season and looks great with yoga pants too mamas! Leopard print, yaaaaaaaaas. I'm loving leopard print this season and every season really. This shirt was purchased two years ago from Dress Up Boutique for less than $15 and I've worn it a ton. Leopard just never goes out of style in my opinion. Looks great with or without a vest/cardigan and can be dressed up or down. Add black skinny jeans and black riding boots and a sparkly necklace and this top is ready for date-night! Ow! Ow! Here is the vest again and this vest is from Lime Lush Boutique too. I think it was $38, a little pricey, but goes with everything and is super warm too. Order a size up because it runs small. I paired it with a bright green long sleeved top here for a very casual look. All three of these looks are super casual and I love pairing them with my comfy sparkle keds, featured in a recent post. I'm in a flowy top on the left, so I wore skinny jeans, but a more fitted look on the right, so I paired with my old boot cut jeans- and yep, I hear the boot cut is coming baaaaaack! But, don't toss your skinnies just yet ladies, they still serve their purpose. Both tops are over a year old and purchased on zulily for less than $20 each. I loooooove a comfy baseball tee in the fall- most comfortable top in the world and cute too- also works well with yoga pants- thank goodness! I. love. polka dots. #sorrynotsorry! I am drawn to all things polka dots becasue they are just so fun and they make me smile. This sheer polka dot top was purchased about three years ago from jcpenney, but has been a total staple for me. The moto-style sweatshirt zip up, is a new-ish purchase. I got it over the summer at the banana republic outlet mall. It's a winner and looks great with yoga pants and a long tank as well. A good cardigan zip up is a must this season! And of course the polka dots with the bright green cardigan is just fun! Yep, I definitely need a tank under the shirt though, can we say, see-through! Pep-Lum, yum, yum! I looove a good peplum top because it flows right over that fluffy muffin top and accentuates the finer-looking areas so well. This top is old...cannot even remember where I got it... but it's a staple. Can be dressed up too with a sparkly necklace. Yaaaaaas! White pants. Yep. My mom is shaking her head right now and mumbling something about, "In my day, we would never..." I know. I know. But look, it's like I told you, I don't really follow fashion rules. I just like what I like. And white skinnies with brown riding boots (from DSW 3 or 4 years ago) are just yum. And the dots. Yes, the dots! This fitted sweater is from The Limited last year, they always have GREAT sales! And the headband is fun- stripes + dots = fun explosion White pants again y'all. I know. I know. But paired with the navy gingham and the tan wrap sweater (both circa 2012 and no idea where from). Oh. my. gaw. Could you not just play some croquet in this outfit though? Now introducing the Palazzo pant. To be honest, I had never even heard of these. I know, where have I been. But I recently started to notice them and love how comfy they looked so I had to try them. But look, I'm not going to spend a fortune on a trend, so I hit up my fave spot for trendy fashion- WALMART and I scored these babies for $12.95. They are like wearing pajama pants in public. Lov-ing this trend. Yes. and Yes. I paired them with an old black cut-out top from Nordstrom juniors last year. You can get great deals in the juniors section by-the-way. Annnnnnd, this. is. me. like. EVERY.DAY. ALL. DAY. I wake up and put on my work out clothes because I go to the gym in the mornings before I start my day, but no time to shower and change until 8pm when my toddler goes to sleep, so I might as well have workout clothes I like. These are from my fave spot WALMART!!! I'm loving the color blocking and they are so soft and comfy. The top is super fun and looks like similar more expensive brands with only a fraction of the price! And lastly, a creation of my own... a super long fitted top (AKA a short, fitted dress) paired with a pair of skinnies and my sparkly keds! This is super my-style and I'm sure it's frowned upon by people with cutting-edge style, but it's just fun and comfy, and a way to wear that dress you NEVER wear because it's too short! Dress from a cheapy shop called Love Culture. They have fab trendy clothes for suuuuuper cheap prices, but order everything about 1-2 sizes larger than you normally wear becasue they always run small.
So the bottom line is that you should throw the fashion rules out the window and have fun with your style this season. Wear things that you like and feel good in! Don't worry so much about "fitting in" and don't feel like you have to wear "real clothes" every day. I wear "real clothes" about once or twice a week, but it's good to remind yourself that you can look nice and take a shower occasionally-makes you feel good! And don't spend too much money either. Get out your old stuff and take inventory. What can you still wear? How can you update old staples with new pieces? And most of all, look for comfy. When you are comfy, you are happy, and happy is always in style! Happy fall Y'all!
